Balancing Your Life
Can Help You to Balance Your Books

Have you ever heard of anyone on their death bed say
"I wish I had spent more time working?"

Of course not, yet how many times have we witnessed this tragedy.

People pay the ultimate price for success in business - they sacrifice their personal happiness in the pursuit of money. This is not only completely UNNECESSARY but also foolhardy.

Here are some tips for maintaining a balanced and fulfilling life while supporting a thriving business.

A balanced life is one that is satisfying to you in all areas including: Family, Career, Romance, Friends, Personal Development, Fun, Health, Possessions, Finances & Spiritual.

Here is an example from my personal experience:
Many years ago I decided that I wanted to get married and start a family. At the time, I was working all hours of the night and weekends. I knew this work schedule would not support my personal goals. It was important to me to be present for my family, to be home for dinner each evening, to attend events and to coach youth sports.

Here’s what I did:
I reorganized my business to accommodate my personal goals. It was easy, once I recognized what I had to do. Had I not done that, I would have resented my business and been frustrated with my home life. Neither would have thrived and I would have been miserable. The result of my actions is a healthy family and a thriving business.

Balance is a daily commitment not a destination.
Every day we make decisions that create our present day reality. If your life is not to your satisfaction - change your daily decisions.

Balance is an ongoing process. I personally make adjustments constantly in order to maintain balance in my life. The payoff is immeasurable. Nothing compares to living a balanced and fulfilling life that provides profound joy and success.

Maybe you’re thinking, this sounds like psychobabble…
how can a balanced life improve my books?

It’s simple: When you are living a life that is fulfilling, you are healthier and happier freeing your intellect and allowing you to be more creative. When the rest of your life is taken care of you can be fully present and focused at work. Every aspect of your business will improve because of your attitude and abilities.

How can you achieve balance
while building and maintaining a thriving business
?

The first step is to identify where you life is out of balance.

Download “the wheel of life” from the free resources page of my website www.winningthegameofbusiness.com - Print the worksheet and complete it. Use the results to identify those areas of your life that are not getting the attention they need. Then develop a plan to make the needed adjustments.

Knowing and doing are two different things.
How do you stay balanced? Keep your goals in front of you and check in daily making adjustments and decisions to support them. Monthly and annual check in is not enough. The desire for balance has to become a way of life, part of your daily habit then you WILL achieve incredible results.

Quotes

"I believe that being successful means having a balance of success stories across all the many areas of your life. You can't truly be considered successful in your business life if your home life is in shambles."
Zig Ziglar

"I balanced all, brought all to mind, the years to come seemed waste of breath, a waste of breath the years behind, in balance with this life, this death."
William Butler Yeats

Business Tips

Develop Effective Listening Skills!

Have you ever heard this saying "we were born with two ears and only one mouth therefore we should listen twice as much as we talk"?

Here are some tips to help you be a better listener!

1. Be present

Bring your focus into the present and really listen to what is being said.
If you cannot clear your mind of your own personal stuff - ask to talk at a later time. When you are really listening you can also listen for what’s not being said, or what they are trying to convey - beyond the emotion - to discover the truth. Listen for changes in the tone of their voice, watch for facial expressions, notice their body language.

2. Confirm What You Believe You Are Hearing

Repeat back to the person what you think you are hearing them say.
Check in with them and ask them if that is what they are really mean.

3. Be Patient

When people are venting, let them. Listen without reacting. Be very careful with this step not to go into your own opinions or to jump into a fix it mode.

4. Keep an open mind

Watch out for your applying your own personal assumptions or judgments. This is how miscommunication happens.

5. Silence is golden

Don’t be afraid of silence this can be a very powerful tool and it helps you to be sure that someone is finished. (I like to count to 3 before speaking).

6. Practice

This is a skill that the more you do it the better you become. The more you see the benefits the more you will want to practice.

7. Action

The next time you are talking with a customer or fellow employee or even your boss, give these 7 steps a try and see if you get better results

"Most of the successful people I've known are the ones who do more listening than talking."

Bernard Baruch

"Listening can heal wounds."

Sean Covey

"I like to listen. I have learned a great deal from listening carefully. Most people never listen."

Ernest Hemingway

"So when you are listening to somebody, completely, attentively, then you are listening not only to the words, but also to the feeling of what is being conveyed, to the whole of it, not part of it."

Jiddu Krishnamurti
