Making Decisions Stick!
Strategies to get the results you seek.

It is not what we know or analyze before we make a decision that makes a good decision. It is what we do after we make the decision to implement and execute it that makes it a good decision.” – John Maxwell

We make decisions all day long. Most decisions are simple, almost effortless, you see the need for an action, make the decision to take action, take action and it's done. On to the next thing.

To make significant changes you have to have CLARITY. Clarity is knowing in your heart that this is what you really want. To ensure you really want something - you need to have a COMPELLING VISION (that is -- to fully believe this decision will bring great improvement to your life). Focusing on the results that will come from this change is what will COMPELL you to continue to move forward even when obstacles show up. Don't sabotage your goal by moving forward without a plan, or a roadmap. We all know we can't get from A to Z without going through the rest of the alphabet. Make a plan with the manageable steps that you need to take so that you will continue on your journey toward your goal.

It is human nature to resist change (good or bad) and we have many clever (often unconscious) means to deceive ourselves from moving forward and making change. Unless we "fully commit" to making a change we are destined to fail.

That's why having a coach is so valuable. A coach will help keep you on track and accountable for what you say you really want. A coach will help you see the roadblocks and different ways to overcome them.

How do you move forward regardless of circumstances or what your head may be telling you?

FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION
Burn the Ships!

Sometimes we need to remove the safety nets in order for our survival skills to kick in and drive us to success. This is what I call "burning the ships"

Here is a true story about this very process: In 1519 Cortez led a Spanish expedition to settle in the new world. He told his crew that this mission must not fail. They landed on the eastern shores of Mexico with dreams for a wonderful new life. When the day-to-day hardships of the new world made his people doubt their original goal, they quietly began to whisper “lets sail back to the life we knew”. Cortez heard of the whisperings and ordered the ships be burned. He told his people that they was no turning back, they were here to stay.

If you remove or deny yourself the ability to GO BACKWARDS then, when the going gets tough and the impulse to do so overcomes you – your only option will be to continue to MOVE FORWARD!

I have used this techniques many times in my life. Recently, when I decided to become a coach I realized I was never going to be able to fit another business into my already busy life so I had to make room for what I wanted. (I had to decide). I sold two of my businesses, (that were extremely successful but not in alignment with what I wanted and needed in order to move forward on my goal). Then, fully committed to coaching - I enrolled and sent my $5,000 tuition check to coaching school and sent out announcement letters to every person I knew announcing that I was a coach and open for business.

Food for thought:

What goal or burning desire do you have? What is something you really want in your life? Where do you need to Burn the Ships in order to make moving forward your only option. If you are not willing to Burn your Ships then maybe you don't have true clarity or a compelling vision – so it may be just a "wish" and nothing more.

As a coach, I work with people every day helping them to gain clarity, develop a compelling vision, design a roadmap and reach their goals! By working with a coach you will stay on track and overcome the inevitable roadblocks that will get in the way. Once you commit to a decision it gives you the capacity to get past any and all excuses or roadblocks to change any or every part of your life in an instant.

Business Tips

Bigger is not always better I have always said and heard this and even said it myself and still went ahead and tried my hand at bigger is better, now having experienced it I can say I really believe this is just not true.

Here is what I learned from my experience with bigger is not always better:

Your personal goals should never come at the expense of your business goals.

You deserve a fulfilling joyful life and a well-run business can and will support that.

It is just not true that a company must grow or it will die. What you do need to do is keep your eye on is staying fresh and innovative and always looking for ways to offer more value to your customers.

Action: Check to see where in your business or life you have become boring or stagnant.

How can you do it better than you did yesterday? Or how can we make it easer to do business with us or how can we offer our customers more value than we are offering now.

What is one idea that we can implement today that would make us more efficient or profitable?

You get the idea? Keep reinventing your existing business and you wont have to expand. Just keep improving the quality of what you have now!
